Specific issues in transfemale patients
There are some modifications made during surgery in transfemale patients. In some cases, the nipple/areola may need to be shifted into a more central position. We also may need to adjust the inframammary fold/lower breast fold, if the distance between the nipple and fold is too short. Usually we prefer to wait at least 12 months to 18 months after hormones have been started and would like the breasts to be at a stable size prior to performing surgery.
Will insurance cover the procedure?
Sometimes. Certain Blue Cross plans/Carefirst and Aetna generally cover the surgery. In most cases, Cigna and United Healthcare do not. You can refer to your specific plan to see if it is a covered benefit. If not, we can give you a quote for surgery.
Your Breast Augmentation will be performed in Dr. Praful Ramineni‘s surgery center located in Washington, DC.
