Education and Training
Dr. Nghiem grew up in Northern California and modeled her career after her father, a now retired surgeon. She moved to the East Coast at the age of 17 to attend Dartmouth College. After graduating from Dartmouth with honors, she pursued a two-year fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where she focused her research on breast cancer. Her quest for professional development led her to pursue a Master’s in Physiology at Georgetown University, focusing her research on phantom limbs and their implications on body image and neural plasticity. She thereafter pursued her medical degree at the University of Michigan, one of the most highly ranked medical schools in the country. Dr. Nghiem would later complete her plastic surgery training at the University of Rochester in New York. During her residency, she refined her surgical skills while contributing to the plastic surgery specialty through research efforts. Her dedication would be rewarded with the Resident Research Award, in recognition of her excellence in academic plastic surgery during her final year, all while serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Nghiem then returned to the D.C. metropolitan area to complete an additional year of advanced training in aesthetic surgery post-residency.
