Neck Liposuction

Conveniently located to serve Washington DC, Arlington, Bethesda

What is neck liposuction?

Neck liposuction is a safe and effective way to address excess fat in the chin and neck area, offering patients a pathway to enhanced self-confidence through improved facial symmetry and contour. Our patients often seek this type of procedure if they’re looking to reduce the appearance of a double chin or refine the jawline for a more defined facial profile.

Beyond cosmetic enhancements, neck liposuction also offers several benefits that contribute to a patient’s overall satisfaction and confidence.

  • Removes excess fat from the neck and under the chin, resulting in a more defined jawline and neck contour.
  • Significantly improve one’s side profile by eliminating the appearance of a double chin.
  • Requires smaller incisions, which typically results in less scarring and a quicker recovery.
  • Patients often experience a significant boost in self-esteem and body image.
  • Fat cells removed during the procedure are gone permanently, and with a stable weight, results can last indefinitely.
  • Can be combined with other procedures such as chin augmentation or a neck lift for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
  • Most patients can return to work and normal activities within a week, making it a convenient option for those seeking noticeable improvements without extensive downtime.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for neck liposuction in Washington DC are individuals looking to improve the appearance of their neck and jawline by removing excess fat. They should:

  1. Be in good overall health, without any medical conditions that could impair healing or increase the risk of surgery
  2. Have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery
  3. Want to achieve smooth, natural-looking outcomes
  4. Be non-smokers or those willing to quit smoking well in advance of the surgery and throughout the recovery period
  5. Have maintained a stable weight for some time
  6. Be mentally prepared for the surgical process and understand the commitment required for a successful recovery

How is the procedure performed?

Neck liposuction is always performed under anesthesia, and there are two ways:

  1. Local anesthesia, which numbs only the target area
  2. General anesthesia, where the patient is asleep during the procedure

The choice of anesthesia depends on the patient’s comfort, the extent of the procedure, and our team’s recommendation.

A small incision is made behind the chin point to hide it. We then inject fluid to numb the area and shrink blood vessels. A small liposuction cannula is used to remove fat from the neck, chin area, and jawline to sculpt the area. We’ll move the cannula back and forth to break up the fat, which is then suctioned out using a vacuum pump or syringe attached to the cannula.

If a tightening procedure is used, we then use the heat-based device to induce contraction of the skin.

Finally, once the desired amount of fat has been removed and the area has been appropriately contoured, the incisions are closed with sutures. In some cases, the incisions are so small that sutures are not required.

Patients typically experience some swelling and bruising, which subsides over the following weeks–around two weeks on average. Most individuals can return to work and other daily activities within a week, although strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks as per our aftercare instructions.

We will supply you with a “jaw bra” compression device to help with swelling. If a tightening procedure is used, it can take several months up to a year to see final results.

The results after a neck liposuction are not immediately visible due to swelling, but as the area heals, patients will notice a more defined neck and jawline. Results can be long-lasting, provided patients maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.
