What is a brow lift?
A brow lift is a procedure to lift the eyebrows and excess forehead skin. This can be done alone or as a combination procedure with eyelid surgery, facelift surgery or both
Who is a good candidate?
Anyone who has had drooping of the brows, increased forehead lines or visual field obstruction due to age. You should be healthy and not using any nicotine products.
How is the procedure performed?
Depending on the type of browlift, incisions are made at the hairline, behind the hairline or at the top of the scalp. This procedure can be done with a very small incision to suspend the brow after lifting it, or if major lifting is needed, a strip of skin/tissue can be removed. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia in some cases.
What is recovery like?
Recovery is quick and most patients are back to work within a few days. Sutures/staples are removed at 5-10 days post procedure and scar care is continued for 2 months. Pain is minimal, but some bruising/swelling is expected.
Risks
- Visible scars – we make every attempt to hide the incisions, but in some patients with a history of poor scarring, the incisions could be visible. In male patients who experience hair loss in the future, incisions that were previously hidden could become visible.
- Recurrence – some tissue relaxation is expected over time, but in a minor amount of cases, this may happen more rapidly and a revision may be needed
- Injury to nerves – forehead/scalp numbness can happen after surgery and usually resolves by itself in a few months. There is a rare risk of injury to a nerve to the muscle of the forehead
- Asymmetry – many patients have some preexisting asymmetry, we will work to correct this, however in some cases, a small amount of asymmetry may remain.
