Hands

Many will argue that our hands reveal more about our age than any other body part. The skin on our hands is thinner and does not have a high density of oil-producing (sebaceous) glands, therefore our hands are more susceptible to environmental pollutants, free radicals, and sun damage. There is also little subcutaneous fat in the hands so as we age and lose that fat prominent veins and tendons are exposed.
Radiesse and Restylane Lyft are brands of dermal fillers that are FDA approved to correct volume loss in hands. It instantaneously restores volume in the back of the hands, diminishes the appearance of tendons and veins giving your hands a more plump, youthful appearance. The results are visible immediately and last up to 1 year.
Another aspect of hand rejuvenation is the elimination of the sun spots. Sunspots (solar lentigos) are the result of a prolonged overexposure to the sun’s UV rays without protection. It can also be caused by the artificial source of ultraviolet rays, such as from tanning beds. Prolonged overexposure to the sun causes premature aging of the skin, one of the signs being the dark spots. Treatment for sunspots include Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapy and chemical peels which work by turning over the top layer of the skin.

Fat reduction

Kybella is the trademark name for deoxycholic acid. Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells.
The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat, Kybella destroys the fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness in the area(s) treated. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

What should I expect after my Kybella treatment?

Swelling. In the clinical trials most patients reported moderate swelling lasting a median of 11 days. Other common side effects include, pain at injection site, temporary numbness, redness, and areas of firmness that typically resolve by 8 weeks.

Is Kybella right for me?

Kybella may be right for you if…

  • You’re bothered by fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness
  • You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are
  • You don’t want to have surgery
  • You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness, or small pockets of fat in other areas (around navel, bra, back, or posterior thigh) seem stuborn and will not go away with diet and exercise.

Hair loss

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): PRP is an injectable therapy to help restore thinning hair. PRP involves taking platelet cells from your blood and injecting them into your scalp for an effective non-surgical solution to promote hair growth.

How does PRP therapy work?

PRP acts by stimulating inactive hair follicles into active growth, stimulating stem cells present around the hair root, and works to improve anchorage of the hair to the scalp by producing an increased extracellular matrix.  Platelet cells promote healing and accelerate tissue regeneration. They are used in many areas of medicine beyond aesthetics.

What should I expect at a PRP hair loss session?

A small amount of your blood is drawn and put into a high speed centrifuge. This process separates the platelets from your blood. The platelets are removed and prepared for injection. Next, PRP is drawn up into a syringe and injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth. The injections are given over about three minutes and there are about 13 of them. The process can be a bit uncomfortable but ProNox ( can be used to blunt anxiety and discomfort. Most patients require three treatments that are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

What is ProNox?
ProNox is an innovative analgesia system that involves the use of a patient-controlled, 50/50 combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen to minimize anxiety and discomfort from a procedure under local anesthesia. Nitrous oxide is a well-known sedative (once called laughing gas) that calms the central nervous system, allowing patients to feel comfortable during necessary or elective procedures.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a treatment that helps treat fine lines, skin tone, and texture by creating micro-injuries to create new skin growth. When you create an injury to the skin it begins to repair itself by rebuilding collagen and elastin and encouraging melanocyte cells to repair themselves.

How do I preserve the effects of the treatment?
  • 3 treatments 1-2 mo. apart for fine lines and pigmentation
  • 6 treatments 1-2 mo. apart for acne scarring (Use caution in over promising results for acne scaring. It is not beneficial for deep “ice pick” scars – they need CO2 or J-Plasma resurfacing.)
  • Maintenance treatment 1-2 times a year after the initial series of 3.
What is the difference in Microneedling and Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is done dry and typically for pain relief.

In microneedling the purpose of the treatment to created micro-injuries to create new skin tissue growth.  When you create an injury the skin it begins to repair itself and that includes:

  • rebuilding collagen and elastin – helps with fine lines, skin tone and texture
  • encouraging melanocyte cells to repair themselves – helps with melasma, sunspots, and discoloration
Does it hurt?
It is considered a comfortable procedure usually rated a 1/10 on a pain scale. A topical numbing agent it used. The procedure can be done without a topical numbing agent however, for your comfort this is not recommended. Skinpen utilizes 14 needles and a range of 0.25 – 1.5mm. The depth of the needle is customize for each area of your face.
What should I know pre-procedure?
  • Avoid the sun exposure
  • Discontinue use of topical retinoids 72 hours prior to procedure.
  • Cannot be performed during active acne.
  • Allow at least 24 hours after autoimmune therapies
  • Wait six months following oral isotretinoin (Accutane) use.

Neck

Horizontal neck lines are caused by repetitive muscle movement and skin folding that overtime, become apparent even at rest. Botulinum toxin type A (i.e. Botox, Dysport) can be used to relax the platysma muscles under the skin to treat existing lines or to preventatively keep the lines from forming. Botulinum toxin type A typically lasts between 3 and 5 months in this area.

Sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating commonly seen under the arms, on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and around the hairline. Hyperhidrosis is treated with botulinum toxin type A.

Sweating is our body’s mechanism to cool itself. Some medical conditions can cause hyperhidrosis: diabetes, menopause hot flashes, overactive thyroid gland, nervous system disorders, heart attack, etc. In these cases, it’s called secondary hyperhidrosis.

It is normal to sweat a lot when exercising, anxious or when having a fever however, when sweating is excessive it can cause social anxiety, embarrassment, and disrupt normal daily activities.

One of the most effective treatments of hyperhidrosis is blocking the nerves that trigger sweat glands by injecting Botulinum toxin type A (i.e. Dysport, Botox) into the problematic area. Several injections are needed for each affected area.

Longevity of the results varies and can last from 6-9 months on average.

Average cost underarm sweat reduction: $950
